INTRODUCTION

  1. The Patagonia Extreme Race  is a race ultracycling / Ultrarunning no-stop  self-sufficiency without any outside help  with the following categories:
    • CATEGORY A – Self Supported Only (men / women)
    • CATEGORY B – Self Supported 2 Person Team (male / female / mixed)
    • CATEGORY C – Only Running (men / women)
  2. You can participate only in the following types
    1. MTB / GRAVEL
    2. Running (with backpack)
  3. Participants must be 18 years of age and must be enrolled in a federation of their country of origin (For example, Italy: FCI, ACSI, UISP, UDACE etc.)
  4. Participation is not open to disabled athletes.
  5. SOLO / Team category at the start and will be stopped for any reason until the end of their race.
  6. CONVENTIONAL TERMS EMPLOYED IN THE RACE AND PRESENT IN THE REGULATION
    • SIGNED-IN POINT , point of reception of the participants before the start of the race and established in the city of El Chalten for the Bike and Punta Arenas for the runners.
    • INSPECTION POINT , point used by the organization to control the participant’s bike and mandatory equipment
    • PHOTO POINT , point used by the organization for photo sessions to participants
    • MEETING POINT , point used by the organization to inform participants about data and race information
    • NIGHT TIME , period of the day from 7.00 PM to 7.00 AM
    • DAY TIME , period of the day from 7.00 AM to 7.00 PM
    • START POINT , point set by the organization that establishes the start of the race
    • FINISH POINT, point set by the organization that establishes the end of the race
    • DROP BAG, transport of the 3 backpacks that the competitor is obliged to deliver to the organization at the  BAG POINT 
    • BAG POINT,  point set by the collection / recovery organization of the DROP BAG

Registration and costs

The registration procedure, and the provision of all the required documentation, must be completed without delay by January 15, 2019; for organizational reasons, we will not be able to accept registrations after this date and will not include the procedure.

We do not accept cancellations and do not reimburse the registration fee for any reason

Responsibility

  1. All participants in  Patagonia Race Extreme  do their own risk and under their own responsibility. Therefore, at the moment of accreditation to the  SIGNED IN POINT-point,  each participant must sign and deliver the  Disclaimer  That excludes the organizer and the support staff from any legal claim.
  2. The organization is not responsible for any type of accident of the participants, for the damage / loss of material of the same.
  3. Insurance coverage (for accidents, illness, theft, civil liability) is the sole responsibility of each member.

Regulation changes

  1. The competition organization reserves the right to modify the competition regulations if necessary, especially in the case of safety, which remains the number one priority at any time before and during the race.
  2. When the organization creates new rules, these are valid for each participant from the time of publication on our site; in case of rules modified for reasons of extreme urgency, these will be notified directly to each participant and team leader through the appropriate communication tools (email or sms)

Correctness

  1. The play must be part of the competition and should be a value of each participant. In case a participant has clearly incorrect behavior, this will be punished with a penalty in terms of hours or minutes.

Official route

  1. The organization will provide the  GPS track one month before the start  of the race.
  2. The gps track must be  downloaded  to your device gps
  3. At the end of the race, the organization will check the route taken by the participant registered on their device gps and downloaded for verification
  4. Each participant must follow the official path through their own device where to upload the gps file (gpx or kml). The gps track  is the only official document to follow the route .
  5. Attached to the gps track, a paper RoadBook document will be provided, which includes the main logistical information (local power and reception points, BAG POINT, etc …)
  6. The participant who leaves the gps track provided for any reason,  must return to the exact point where the off track occurred .
  7. The only way to return to the inside of the route is by bike / foot.

Unpredictable events

  1. If a participant can not continue along the official route for an unforeseen event ( as an example and not exhaustive: work in progress, weather conditions, accident, emergency, village festivals, etc. ), the participant must inform the organizer as soon as possible. by the telephone number that was provided at the time of accreditation. The organizer will communicate the alternative route by telephone . If for various reasons (as an example and not exhaustive: absence of telephone network, disturbed line, busy line, etc) the participant was unable to communicate with the organization, the same is authorized to evaluate an alternative, which will be evaluated by organizer as soon as possible.

Work in progress

  1. Participants can also cross roads with work in progress, always respecting the highway code.

Participants

  1. Except as indicated in “unpredictable events” participants can leave the path only to find an area to eat or sleep.
  2. Participants can not be pushed by people, other participants or driven by vehicles.
  3. If two participants meet during the race, they can cycle side by side for no more than 15 minutes.
  4. Remember that the SCIA IS NOT PERMITTED , and that each participant must maintain a reasonable distance from any participant or vehicle that precedes it.
  5. Participants must travel to the right of the white line whenever possible.

Helmet, bike and safety material

  1. Every participant must wear an approved helmet during the whole race and all the bikes must comply with the UCI regulations; every bike must be equipped respecting the highway code.
    Furthermore every bike must have:
  • at least 4 reflective stickers on each side of each wheel;
  • reflective stickers behind the saddle;
  • reflective adhesive on the back of each shoe;
  • the race number attached to the helmet on the left side.
  • the race number attached to the bike seat
  • A reflective jacket or suspenders to wear during the NIGHT TIME period
  • The rear light mounted on your MTB / Gravel must be switched on 24 hours a day

Traffic and Police 

  1. Each participant is required to respect the highway code and any violation of the same found by our race officials, will be punished with a penalty. We also reserve the right to notify the police of any violations.
  2. In particular, by way of example and not exhaustive:  it is not allowed to cross with red lights, crossings, crosswalks, sites of work in progress without respecting the highway code
  3. Participants who are stopped by the local police for any reason, and must leave the path to follow them, are asked to notify the organizer of the incident as soon as possible;

Race officials

  1. The competition officials are the only ones authorized to monitor the race and to give penalties even in case of violations of the highway code.
  2. The race official can stop the participant to issue the penalty and can also stop the participant to remember the rules or for safety reasons.
  3. If the participant appears unable to continue due to obvious physical problems, the match official is authorized to stop the participant.
  4. The race official may disqualify the participant who has violated the regulations and has exceeded the allowed penalties.
  5. Cars with race officials will check the regularity of the race on the route, both during the day and during the night and with surprise checks.

Penalty:

  1. The race official and the organizer can issue penalties to those who violate the highway code or regulation.
  2. Penalty for all categories:
    • 1 ª penalty: 15 min
    • 2 ª penalty: 30 min
    • 3 ª penalty: 45 min
    • 4th penalty: DISQUALIFICATION
  3. The competition organizer reserves the right to change the penalty time based on the type of violation and to issue penalties following the analysis of videos or photos of competitors.

Credits 

  1. Only the organizer is authorized to issue time bonuses. For example, the participant can receive a bonus of time due to an unexpected event that caused a disadvantageous change of course. 

Publication of penalties or credits

  1. Penalties and credits received by the participant will be promptly notified by SMS or telephone to the participant.

Disqualification

  1. The following points are considered serious violations of rules and will be punished with immediate disqualification:
    1. Consumption of alcohol by the participant;
    2. Possession of doping substances;
    3. Refusal of drug or anti-doping tests before and after the competition;
    4. It is not allowed to complete part of the route on a motorized vehicle or with a different bike model;
    5. Refuse to take a rest stop when ordered by a race official or by the organizer;
    6. Behavior by the participant dangerous for the safety of any other user on the road;
    7. Harassment and insults to other participants and match officials;
    8. Behaviors that put the Race in a bad light;
    9. The issue of 3 penalties.
  2. If a participant is disqualified, the organization reserves the right to accept the participant or not in subsequent years.

Appeal for tender decisions

  1. Any appeal must be written and delivered to the organizer before the end of the competition. The official appeal must contain the reason and any evidence (photos, videos, etc.). The organizer will evaluate and decide by the end of the event.

Pre-race requests:

  1. Each participant must attend the briefing at the MEETING POINT and complete all the required activities as indicated in the schedule of activities.
  2. The violation of this request will result in 1 hour of preventive penalty.

Rules for the departure and the arrival of the race

  1. The following rules concern the start and finish of the race:
    1. All participants must start from the starting point set by the organization.
    2. Teams must reach the finish together.
    3. The achievement of the  FINISH POINT determines the end of the race.

Mobile Phones Phones

  1. All participants must have at least one mobile smartphone and at least one phone number that is always reachable.

Reporting obligation 

  1. The competition organizer must be contacted by phone or text message if:
    • the participant encounters a block of traffic, prohibitive weather conditions, work in progress, accident and for any unforeseen event;
    • problems with your bike;
    • the participant withdraws from the race.

Web Tracking

  1. The position of each participant and team will be monitored through a web tracking service.

BAG POINT

  1. It will be possible to send personal material in the data bags supplied by the organization DROP BAG 2 days before departure to the recovery points.
  2. The  BAG POINT  will be hotels, family houses, shelters, municipal gyms where you can retrieve your bag and possibly rest, wash for the time that the participant considers necessary taking into account the time limits provided by the organization, all at his own expense!

Private films and videos

  1. Errors and violations of the rules produced by the participants on other participants, will be evaluated and judged by the end of the race if delivered immediately.

Time limit

  1. Maximum time to be considered FINISHER of Patagonia Race Extreme :
    1. CATEGORY A
    2. B CATEGORY
    3. CATEGORY C
  2. The organization reserves the right to stop the participant who is clearly unable to keep the minimum average to be considered a  FINISHER
  3. The organization foresees deadlines and hourly gates that the participants must respect, otherwise there will be immediate disqualification.
    at that moment the participant must:

    1. aided by the information provided by the organization, using its own means, bus, plane, etc. directly upon arrival
    2. or continue outside the official classification (it will also be included in the ranking of arrivals outside the time limit).

SOS

  1. In the event of an accident or serious physical problems, the participant may start the SOS from the satellite detector, but remember that if there is no real urgency, the insurance will not cover the cost of the assistance that will be clearly debited to the person who launched the SOS request  .

  • 29 “or Gravel MTB bike with clawed or semi-sliced ​​wheel
  • Satellite GPS device where you can download gps files of the race path provided by the organization
  • Replacement batteries for a period of 20 days (batteries can be shipped to RCC points)
